Day 1 +

Day 1 - Moshi (Arrival & Pre-Trek Briefing)

You will arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and be transferred to your hotel in Moshi. In the evening, you will meet your guide for a pre-trek briefing, equipment check, and Q&A session. This is your chance to prepare mentally and physically for the adventure ahead.

Day2 +

Day 2 - Machame Gate to Machame Camp (Rainforest Zone)

After breakfast, you will drive to Machame Gate (1,800m). Your trek begins here as you hike through a lush, misty rainforest. The trail can be muddy and slippery, but the beautiful ferns, tall trees, and occasional colobus monkeys make it magical. You will arrive at Machame Camp (2,835m) in the late afternoon.

Day 3 +

Day 3 – Machame Camp to Shira Camp (Moorland Zone)

Leaving the rainforest behind, the landscape opens into rolling heather and moorland. You will hike along rocky ridges with stunning views of Mount Meru in the distance. The air becomes cooler and thinner. You will reach Shira Camp (3,750m), set on a high plateau with breathtaking panoramic views.

Day 4 +

Day 4 – Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

This is a crucial acclimatization day. You will hike to Lava Tower (4,600m), a high rocky peak, then descend to Barranco Camp (3,960m). The principle is "climb high, sleep low" – helping your body adjust to altitude. The descent into Barranco Valley reveals the famous Barranco Wall, a dramatic cliff you will climb tomorrow.

Day 5 +

Day 5 – Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Today starts with the thrilling Barranco Wall – a steep but non-technical scramble up rock faces. It is challenging but fun, with great views. After the wall, you will hike through valleys and ridges to reach Karanga Camp (4,035m). This shorter day allows extra time for rest and acclimatization before summit night.

Day 6 +

Day 6 – Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (Base Camp)

You will continue through alpine desert terrain to Barafu Camp (4,640m) – the final camp before the summit. The landscape is rocky and barren. Once you arrive, you will rest, eat an early dinner, and prepare your gear for the midnight summit attempt. Sleep will be short but vital.

Day 7 +

Day 7 – Summit Night (Barafu Camp → Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp)

Around midnight, you will begin the longest and toughest day. The climb to the crater rim at Stella Point (5,756m) is steep, cold, and on loose scree. From there, you will follow the rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – the roof of Africa. After sunrise photos and celebrations, you will descend rapidly back to Barafu Camp for a short rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp (3,100m). You will feel exhausted but triumphant.

Best Time of Year to Visit

June – October

The dry season offers the best wildlife viewing as animals gather around rivers and waterholes.
